What are Finnish name days based on?
The Finnish name day calendar is a list maintained by the Almanac Office, where one or more names are assigned to each day. The calendar contains over 700 names, and it is updated occasionally as naming trends change. Traditionally, name days were based on Catholic saints' memorial days, but the current Finnish calendar is independent and secular.
